Finally, this coming week will see 80 degrees on most days. This should help calm the virus or so they say. Heat & Humidity! Bring it on.
Crabs? I never thought that I would ever see a day when Crabs were over $250 a bushel much less over $300. Well, as of yesterday we are charging $330/bu. It is totally ridiculous. Yesterday, one of our suppliers showed me a bill for #1 LA crabs. They were charging $320/bu. That is outlandish. The cost to the customer would be over $400/bu. Our MD Crabs are cheaper than that and taste better too. I was answering the phone yesterday, I was answering the phone because I had lost the bet to Mary, one customer said that he had been quoted $450/bu. Un believable. The problem is not the quantity of Crabs but on the inability to go out and catch them. The weather has been to windy and cold for Crabs. I am sure we saw the rule of supply and demand and the prices reflected it. Hopefully, this week with the temps in the 80’s, we will see a big increase in the catch and the price drop.
I have seen a lot more cars on the road of late. This to me means that f. It was great to see so many friendly places. olks are getting tired of sitting home and have to get out. While at the Pub yesterday, I saw a lot of people coming to pick up Crabs. Mr B, one of our main suppliers, remarked to me that of all the places that he drops crabs off out, that we run the cleanest establishment of them all. that is good to hear. he has been supplying us from the beginning.
The Downtown Frederick Partnership met with officials regarding reopening which will, hopefully, happen soon. They were discussing outside seating. One of the suggestions was to close Market Street during certain times similar to In The Streets which would permit restaurants to expand their seating capacity out onto the sidewalks and perhaps further. I personally think that is a great idea and would create a huge community atmosphere.
As far as the Pub goes, we hope that the Governor opens restaurants for outside dining this week. Now, all we need is our County Executive to follow suit. If this happens, we will open the Patio with increased spacing of the tables. We will able to have AYCR Crabs and if the prices drop, our Wednesday AYCE Special. We will reopen with a reduced menu to make things easier on our kitchen and wait staff. We will be operating with our Saturday Band Menu. We will have pre-packaged utensils etc. to promote safety.
If I had my way, I would have a band the day we opened. Unfortunately, that is not going to happen. Bummer!
I hope everyone enjoys this week and we are able to open.
Hope to see you at the Pub.
