Warmer weather has come back for a few days at least. It sure was windy earlier in the week and that makes for bone chilling weather.
I d0n’t know if you are aware or not but some members of the County Council have been after our Sheriff, Sheriff Jenkins. They previously requested an audit which showed that he has done a fantastic job not to mention their on going efforts to do away with the 287g program. Their current concern is Covid 19 in the Jail. He said on the radio the other day that the staff and warden have done a super job. There has not been one case among the inmates. Of course when all else fails, they, the detractors, claim racism. That is so far from the truth it is unbelievable. One of our patrons, Wayne Harris, wrote a nice letter to the editor on Saturday saying in part “Racism? Sheriff Jenkins will not tolerate any that comes his way. Walk in his shoes and those of the outstanding deputies and employees of this agency – you can’t touch it.”
As you know, the Sheriff is an elected position in this County and consequently, not under the direct control of the County Executive. The key word being control. There are a number of people that want to do way with the Sheriff’s Department and move to an all County police force. Talk about taxes. What idiots. Keep doing the job you are doing Sheriff and it will never happen. Sheriff Jenkins is in his 4th term.
As a consequence of the Virus and the mandates placed on restaurants, we will, effective tomorrow, be closed on Mondays. We weren’t doing enough business on Mondays to make it worth while to stay open. There will be some shift in schedules to make it all work but it is in our best interest. We hope you will understand and continue to support the Pub.
Mary, Pete and I have been discussing how to make the AYCE Buffet Breakfast work. We have come up with a plan that we think will work. We will still have the omelet station and the Waffle station with 6’distance. The “Buffet” will be in the kitchen and served to your table from there. Tables of course will be limited to no more than 6. Now, all that remains is to finalize the details and pick a date. I will keep you posted.
If you haven’t been to the Pub, the Patio has been enclosed with temporary weather protection and heat installed. Because it is enclosed, those that smoke will have to do so outside the enclosure for the time being. It is an effort on our part to expand our seating capacity while keeping our customers comfortable. We hope you will try it out.
Mary’s Thanksgiving Lunch was a big success as always. This year, however, was marked by an increase in Carry-out orders which is great. It does bring me to another point. Our reduced menu and soups are all available for Carry-out. So if you don’t want to patronize the Pub on account of virus concerns please utilize our Carry out. We thank you for your support.
Thursday is Thanksgiving. We have a lot to be thankful for this year and you our customers and friends are on the top of the list. We hope you have a great Thanksgiving and enjoy your family. Me, Miss Linda and I are picking up a fresh Turkey from Hillside to enjoy.
Stay safe and enjoy the holiday.
